BETA This is a new service – your feedback will help us to improve it.

Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the following services:

  • my BRP has not been delivered
  • report a problem with your new BRP
  • report a lost or stolen BRP
  • nominate someone to collect your BRP
  • report a problem with collecting your BRP

These services are run by the Home Office. We want as many people as possible to be able to use these services. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible these services are

We know that some parts of these services are not fully accessible, including:

  • your personal details won’t always prepopulate
  • some technical labelling is missing or incorrect, which may affect how screen readers and other assistive technologies interpret information

Feedback and contact information

If you need to use one of these services but are unable to do so, email accessibilitystatementsbidmu@homeoffice.gov.uk and we will make alternative arrangements.

Reporting accessibility problems with this service

The Home Office is committed to making its online services accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

These services are partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Non-accessible content found across all BRP services:

  • some common personal details like name, date of birth and address may not autocomplete with the user’s details - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 1.3.5 (Identify Input Purpose)
  • not all pages identify the language used as English - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 3.1.1 (Language of Page)
  • some text on the final confirmation page is not sufficiently colour contrasted against the background - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast - minimum)
  • typeaheads are announced as ‘disabled’ or ‘read only’ even though they are not - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role Value)
  • the guidance read out on how to correctly populate date fields is incorrect - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 3.3.2 (Labels and Instructions)
  • the guidance read out on how to navigate typeaheads does not apply to all device types - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 3.3.2 (Labels and Instructions)
  • not all fields have legend text - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships)

Non-accessible content found in ‘Report a lost or stolen BRP’

  • date fields do not use unique IDs, which may make it harder for assistive technologies to accurately interpret text - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing)

Non-accessible content found in ‘My BRP has not been delivered’

  • the link text to contact UK Visas and Immgration does not clearly communicate the link’s purpose - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose)

Non-accessible content found in ‘Nominate someone to collect your BRP’

  • some radio buttons do not have unique IDs, which may make it harder for assistive technologies to accurately interpret text - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing)
  • date fields have incorrect aria labels - this does not meet WCAG 1.3.1 (Info and relationships) and WCAG success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value)
  • on one page, an option is read out that does not exist - this does not meet WCAG success criterion 3.3.2 (Labels and Instructions)

We plan to fix all of these issues by no later than 23 March 2021.
